Life insurance calculator
How much life insurance do I need?
Enter your mortgage, debts, income and the number of years you'd want to replace your earnings for. The calculator adds up what your family would need and subtracts any cover you already hold, to suggest how much new life insurance to arrange.
Suggested cover to arrange
£5,000

How this life insurance calculator works
A widely used rule of thumb is to cover your outstanding debts (including your mortgage), plus a multiple of your income to replace your earnings for the years your family would depend on them, plus a buffer for final expenses. We add those together, then subtract any existing cover to show the gap you may want to fill.
It's a starting point, not a precise figure. Factors like your partner's income, children's ages, future education costs and existing savings all matter. For a deeper walk-through, read how much life insurance do I need, and see our life insurance advice page for how cover works.
